YOUTH INFLUENCING BIKE POLICY CHANGE IN BOGOTA

The project sought to strengthen the bicycle representative’s knowledge and skills to convey more powerful messages and reach decision-makers. It had 3 main stages: capacity development, symbolic acts implementation and development of an advocacy tool.
ABOUT THE PROJECT LEAD
Daniela is from Bogotá, Colombia. She has a degree in Political Science and is currently starting her post-graduate studies on Public Management. She works as a Project Manager in Despacio, promoting safer and more sustainable mobility. She is also a member of the Local and City Bicycle Board. "What inspires me to promote change is a strong belief that there are no small actions, so all you can contribute to improve a certain situation is worth it."

Received active participation and contribution of ideas from the bicycle representatives during the entire project.
Developed new specific and innovative proposals that can be used by the young cyclists and are viable to be adopted by the local authorities.
Created new alliances with local and youth organisations, such as UBI and Niñas sin miedo.
Presented a proposal to both the Bicycle Representatives and the Bogotá City Council, related to the promotion of sustainable mobility, key road safety interventions, strengthening the participation in bicycle-related decisions and improving conditions for women on bikes.

Despacio is a research centre based in Bogotá. Its main objective is to promote quality of life in cities through applied research that challenges intuition. Despacio centres its work on three issues: city, life, and climate. The team is composed of senior and junior professionals with ample experience in road safety, sustainable mobility, city planning and gender & transport.
